What biomarkers are included in this test?

The Diabetes & Heart Health Blood Test offers a comprehensive analysis of key biomarkers including HbA1c, Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides, VLDL, LDL/HDL Ratio, Cholesterol/HDL Ratio, and Estimated Average Glucose (EAG). This test provides critical insights into your blood sugar management and cardiovascular risk factors, empowering you and your healthcare provider to make informed decisions about your health. Ideal for monitoring diabetes control and heart health in one convenient panel.

Biomarkers:

  • HbA1c: The HbA1c test measures your average blood sugar over the past 3 months. It helps identify risk for prediabetes or diabetes and, if you already have diabetes, shows how well you’re managing it. The test reports the percentage of hemoglobin coated with sugar - higher percentages mean higher blood sugar levels.
  • Cholesterol: This test measures total cholesterol in your blood. Cholesterol is a fat-like substance used to build cells, make hormones, bile, and vitamin D. In the blood, it travels in particles called lipoproteins: HDL (“good”), LDL (“bad”), and VLDL (“bad”). Total cholesterol is the combined amount of all three, and changes in any type affect your overall score.
  • HDL: This test measures HDL-cholesterol (“good” cholesterol) in your blood. HDL particles, made in the liver, help remove excess cholesterol by carrying it to the liver for excretion or to glands for hormone production. Because HDL clears cholesterol from arteries, it helps protect against atherosclerosis and heart disease.
  • LDL: This test measures LDL-cholesterol (“bad” cholesterol) in your blood. LDL particles carry cholesterol through the bloodstream but can deposit it in artery walls, where it oxidizes and contributes to atherosclerosis and heart disease.
  • Triglycerides: This test measures triglycerides, the most common fat in your body. They come from food and are packaged with cholesterol and proteins for energy, while the liver can also make and store them from excess carbs or calories. High triglyceride levels increase the risk of heart disease.
  • VLDL: This test measures very-low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C) in your blood. Made in the liver, VLDL carries triglycerides and cholesterol through the bloodstream and can convert to LDL-C. Like LDL, it’s considered “bad” cholesterol because it deposits fats in blood vessels.
  • LDL/HDL Ratio: This test calculates your LDL-C to HDL-C ratio, an indicator of heart disease risk. Lower ratios are better, meaning higher “good” HDL-C compared to “bad” LDL-C.
  • Cholesterol/HDL Ratio: This test measures the total cholesterol to HDL-C ratio, an indicator of heart disease risk. Lower ratios are better, showing higher “good” HDL-C compared to “bad” cholesterol.
  • EAG: Estimated average glucose (eAG) is calculated from HbA1c, reflecting your 3-month average blood sugar. It’s easier to understand because it uses the same units as glucose monitors. Unlike personal monitors, which can be biased by when you test, eAG captures 24-hour glucose patterns, making it a more accurate measure of overall blood sugar control.
