What biomarkers are included in this test?

This Men's Hormone Blood Test measures key biomarkers including Estradiol (E2), Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Free Testosterone, Total Testosterone, and Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG). By analyzing these hormones, it provides valuable insights into testosterone balance and overall hormonal health, helping to guide personalized care and optimize wellness. Ideal for men seeking an expert assessment of their hormonal status.

Biomarkers:

  • Estradiol (E2): This test measures estradiol (E2), the most active form of estrogen. Produced mainly in the testicles in men, smaller amounts also come from the brain, fat, immune cells, and bones. Estradiol supports reproductive health, brain and thyroid function, bone strength, and weight balance. In the blood, most estradiol is bound to proteins, with only about 1% free and active. Since free estradiol is difficult to measure, most tests report total (bound) estradiol levels.
  • Luteinizing Hormone (LH): This test measures luteinizing hormone (LH) in men. LH is produced by the pituitary gland and controlled by the hypothalamus and sex hormones. In men, LH signals the testes to make testosterone, which supports sperm production. Doctors may review this test if you have low testosterone, reduced sex drive, infertility, or symptoms of pituitary or hypothalamic disorders.
  • Free Testosterone: This test measures free testosterone, the small fraction (2–3%) of testosterone not bound to proteins. In men, testosterone is mainly produced by the testes in response to luteinizing hormone (LH). It supports bone strength, muscle mass, red blood cell production, libido, sexual function, sperm production, mood, and brain health. Free testosterone levels peak in the late 20s and decline with age, contributing to andropause symptoms like fatigue and low libido. Low levels are also linked to increased risk of heart disease.
  • Testosterone: This test measures total testosterone, which includes both protein-bound and free testosterone. Produced mainly in the testes (men) and ovaries (women), with smaller amounts from the adrenal glands, testosterone supports bone strength, muscle growth, red blood cell production, libido, mood, and brain function. About 2–3% is free, while most is bound to SHBG or albumin. Testosterone levels naturally start declining after age 30.
  • SHBG: This test measures sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), a protein made in the liver that binds and transports sex hormones like testosterone and estrogen, helping regulate their levels. Doctors may review this test when testosterone results don’t match symptoms such as low libido, infertility, or erectile dysfunction in men. SHBG levels are influenced by sex hormones, thyroid function, insulin, and diet.
