What biomarkers are included in this test?

The Women's Fertility Blood Test evaluates key hormonal biomarkers including AMH, TSH, FSH, E2, Free T4, PRL, and LH. This comprehensive panel provides insights into ovarian reserve, thyroid function, and reproductive hormone balance to support informed fertility planning and management. Ideal for women seeking expert-level understanding of their reproductive health status.

Biomarkers:

  • AMH: This test measures Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), produced in the ovaries. AMH declines with age and becomes undetectable after menopause. Doctors use it with other hormone tests to assess ovarian reserve, fertility potential, menopause timing, and PCOS. AMH is often measured during IVF but is not a stand-alone diagnostic test - results are interpreted alongside medical history and other labs.
  • Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH): A thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) test measures TSH, which is made by the pituitary gland to regulate thyroid hormone production. If thyroid hormones are low, TSH rises to stimulate the thyroid; if they are high, TSH drops. Measuring TSH helps determine if your thyroid is producing the right amount of hormones.
  • Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH): This test measures follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which regulates the menstrual cycle and stimulates egg growth in the ovaries. FSH levels rise and peak before ovulation. Doctors often use this test to evaluate infertility, irregular or missed periods, and ovarian function.
  • Estradiol (E2): This test measures estradiol (E2), the most active form of estrogen. Produced mainly in the ovaries, smaller amounts also come from the brain, fat, immune cells, and bones. Estradiol supports reproductive health, brain and thyroid function, bone strength, and weight balance. In the blood, most estradiol is bound to proteins, with only about 1% free and active. Since free estradiol is difficult to measure, most tests report total (bound) estradiol levels.
  • Free T4: This test measures free T4 (thyroxine), the active thyroid hormone made from iodine and tyrosine. Most T4 in the blood is protein-bound, but only about 0.03% is free and able to convert into T3, the more active hormone that regulates metabolism, energy, cholesterol, and insulin sensitivity. Free T4 is usually measured with TSH to assess thyroid function and diagnose hypo- or hyperthyroidism.
  • Prolactin (PRL): This test measures prolactin, a hormone made by the pituitary gland that supports fertility, reproduction, and breast milk production. Levels are usually low in men and non-pregnant women but rise during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Doctors may review this test to investigate irregular periods, abnormal breast discharge, low libido, or pituitary disorders.
  • Luteinizing Hormone (LH): This test measures luteinizing hormone (LH), produced by the pituitary gland to regulate reproduction in both men and women. In women, LH controls estradiol production, triggers ovulation through an LH surge, and later stimulates progesterone to support early pregnancy. LH levels rise after menopause. Doctors may order this test to assess fertility issues, irregular periods, low testosterone, reduced sex drive, or possible pituitary disorders.
