What biomarkers are included in this test?

The Men's Health & Wellness Blood Test measures crucial biomarkers including E2, LH, Free Testosterone, Testosterone, SHBG, TSH, DHEA-S, Cortisol, Free T3, and Free T4. This panel provides an expert assessment of hormonal balance, thyroid function, and adrenal health, supporting targeted evaluations for men’s overall health and wellness.

Biomarkers:

  • Estradiol (E2): This test measures estradiol (E2), the most active form of estrogen. Produced mainly in the testicles in men, smaller amounts also come from the brain, fat, immune cells, and bones. Estradiol supports reproductive health, brain and thyroid function, bone strength, and weight balance. In the blood, most estradiol is bound to proteins, with only about 1% free and active. Since free estradiol is difficult to measure, most tests report total (bound) estradiol levels.
  • Luteinizing Hormone (LH): This test measures luteinizing hormone (LH) in men. LH is produced by the pituitary gland and controlled by the hypothalamus and sex hormones. In men, LH signals the testes to make testosterone, which supports sperm production. Doctors may review this test if you have low testosterone, reduced sex drive, infertility, or symptoms of pituitary or hypothalamic disorders.
  • Free Testosterone: This test measures free testosterone, the small fraction (2–3%) of testosterone not bound to proteins. In men, testosterone is mainly produced by the testes in response to luteinizing hormone (LH). It supports bone strength, muscle mass, red blood cell production, libido, sexual function, sperm production, mood, and brain health. Free testosterone levels peak in the late 20s and decline with age, contributing to andropause symptoms like fatigue and low libido. Low levels are also linked to increased risk of heart disease.
  • Testosterone: This test measures total testosterone, which includes both protein-bound and free testosterone. Produced mainly in the testes (men) and ovaries (women), with smaller amounts from the adrenal glands, testosterone supports bone strength, muscle growth, red blood cell production, libido, mood, and brain function. About 2–3% is free, while most is bound to SHBG or albumin. Testosterone levels naturally start declining after age 30.
  • SHBG: This test measures sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), a protein made in the liver that binds and transports sex hormones like testosterone and estrogen, helping regulate their levels. Doctors may review this test when testosterone results don’t match symptoms such as low libido, infertility, or erectile dysfunction in men. SHBG levels are influenced by sex hormones, thyroid function, insulin, and diet.
  • Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH): A thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) test measures TSH, which is made by the pituitary gland to regulate thyroid hormone production. If thyroid hormones are low, TSH rises to stimulate the thyroid; if they are high, TSH drops. Measuring TSH helps determine if your thyroid is producing the right amount of hormones.
  • DHEA-S: This test measures dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a steroid hormone mainly produced by the adrenal glands. DHEA is a precursor to testosterone and estrogen and supports well-being, immunity, muscle strength, insulin sensitivity, bone density, cognition, and skin health. Levels peak in your 20s and decline with age. Like cortisol, DHEA rises with stress, but it also helps protect the body from cortisol’s harmful effects.
  • Cortisol: This test measures cortisol, a steroid hormone made by the adrenal glands. Known as the “stress hormone,” cortisol triggers the body’s fight-or-flight response, shifting focus to short-term energy needs over long-term functions like growth, digestion, and immunity. It also regulates metabolism, blood pressure, inflammation, and blood sugar - releasing stored glucose for energy but promoting fat storage when levels stay high. Cortisol naturally peaks in the morning and drops through the day, rising with meals, exercise, or stress.
  • Free T3: This test measures free T3 (triiodothyronine), the active thyroid hormone not bound to proteins. Although only about 0.5% of T3 is free, it plays key roles in growth, brain development, cholesterol regulation, energy production, and insulin sensitivity. Free T3 testing is mainly used to help monitor hyperthyroidism, while other thyroid tests (TSH and free T4) are often needed for accurate diagnosis.
  • Free T4: This test measures free T4 (thyroxine), the active thyroid hormone made from iodine and tyrosine. Most T4 in the blood is protein-bound, but only about 0.03% is free and able to convert into T3, the more active hormone that regulates metabolism, energy, cholesterol, and insulin sensitivity. Free T4 is usually measured with TSH to assess thyroid function and diagnose hypo- or hyperthyroidism.
