Testosterone (Total) Blood Test
The Total Testosterone Test measures testosterone bound to proteins (SHBG/albumin) plus a small free fraction. In women, testosterone supports bone and muscle health, red blood cell production, libido, and mood. Levels can change with age, health conditions, and some medications.
Why Measure Testosterone?
- Symptom assessment: Irregular cycles, acne, hirsutism, low libido, or fatigue.
- Therapy monitoring: Track response to treatment or investigate side effects.
- Metabolic context: Consider with SHBG (indirectly via binding) and thyroid status.
Preparation & Consistency
Keep collection conditions consistent (time of day, medications). Discuss biotin use and hormones with your clinician.
